In 1965, Pepi and Tonko laid down the first stone for Villa Pepi, and it’s been a family passion ever since.
Villa Pepi, named after our nonna Pepi, who you might meet when you stay with us, has been a family business for more than 50 years. Every part of the house was built by family and friends, carving the walls into a rocky slope — we’re constantly improving the space, so if it looks a bit different than the photos here, we’ve been busy again!
The house first opened its doors to guests in 1968, when the accommodation on offer was just three rooms with a shared bathroom. Pepi and Tonko welcomed people from all over the world, some of whom became lifelong friends, returning to us year after year for their slice of the good island life. In 1972, the downstairs area was converted into a successful restaurant called Jugo (‘scirocco’ in Croatian), run by our grandad Tonko, an accomplished chef. Pepi and Tonko added the first floor apartments in 1976, expanding the house to offer bed and breakfast, eventually making the decision to close the restaurant and focus on offering the best accommodation experience. The second floor apartments opened in the early 1980s and it’s been going ever since!
In recent years, the day to day running of the house passed on to Pepi and Tonko’s son Đani (he’s the little guy in the photo to the left!) and daughter-in-law Dubravka, who have continued the family hobby of tinkering with the house whenever they can. The most recent renovation work was carried out over the past few years and features an all-new relaxed aesthetic, with a palette of warm sandy-coloured fabrics and blue accents inspired by the view, and an attention to charming details and cosy corners.
We’ve had the immense privilege of welcoming people to our house for more than 50 years and hope to continue to do so for 50 more.
